This technology intensifies the above described groundwater recirculation by the addition of surfactants. It is utilized mainly in areas with substantial sorption of the pollutant on the soil matrix.
The addition of surfactant triggers the release of pollutant: in higher concentration of the surfactant for the sudden release of contaminant free phase towards the pumped bore-hole, or in lower concentration of the surfactant for the gradual release of the contaminant for bioremediation purposes.
The surfactant application is preceded by laboratory and pilot testing of the selected agents capability to mobilize the target pollutant sorbed on the soil.
