This technology is based on blowing of the air inside the aquifer, at least 2 m below the groundwater table. This may initially lead to the mechanical mobilization of the free phase contamination - most often the non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) - and eventually the method provides the terminal electron acceptor (O2) for the bioremediation processes, bringing the optimal aerobic conditions for fast and regulated biodegradation of organic pollutants.
